Review, revamp and resolve

file511249349101 (1)Every once in a while, it’s good to step back and see how things are going. It’s good to compare where you are right now with where you wanted to be right now. If there’s a variance, take the time to figure out why, and what it’s going to take to get yourself back on track. That’s where I am now: reviewing and revamping.

As part of my blogging plan, I set up a pretty rigorous editorial schedule for myself. As I jumped into the new plan and gave it a go, it quickly became apparent where the flaws were. If you’ll recall, I had planned on addressing a particular topic each day of the week. What I found, though, was that most of what I wanted to talk about was predominately from the same topic. I had a list of ideas a mile long for that one day of the week, and very little – if anything – for any of the other days.

The whole thing quickly collapsed, and rightfully so.

It did get me thinking, though, about what I am really trying to accomplish here. On the one hand, my goal with blogging is to give you information as an introduction of sorts into the world of real estate. Some of what I was trying to say was to help you understand the nuts-and-bolts of the business, and some was to give you an insight into the day-to-day reality of a real estate transaction.

As I thought about how best to present all that information, it finally dawned on me that the nut-and-bolts kind of stuff is not really suited, at least in my mind, to blog posts. That kind of stuff is better left to permanent – and easy to find – pages within a website. The day-to-day stuff is the stuff of a blog.

With that “a-ha!” moment out of the way, I started the process of moving posts to pages and sorting it all out. The menu will be corrected shortly, but the whole thing is leaving the blog a little “light.” That’s as it should be, I guess. It’s more important to have useful information readily available, and the more changeable stuff that happens along the way just go into the stream of the blog.

It’s my intention – and one of my resolutions for 2013 – to keep this blogging thing under control. Now that I have a much clearer vision of what it all means, I think it will be easier to manage. Keep me in line, won’t you?

Have you made any resolutions for the new year? Let me know what you need from me.

With warmest regards,

So what’s next? Take your pick.

Yeah. You should probably do at least one of those things right now.
