Avoid foreclosure

avoid foreclosure | realtor in Highlands Ranch | Randall Brennan

Foreclosures and short sales — commonly called “distressed property sales” — have been a big part of the real estate business in the last few years. The real estate market is recovering, but I’ll bet you still know someone — perhaps yourself — who is hurting financially, and possibly facing foreclosure.

In some parts of the Denver area, there are still nearly as many properties in distress as there are active listings. Even in areas where there is virtually no financial distress, foreclosures and short sales are still happening. It’s not a subject that many people want to talk about, but avoiding foreclosure won’t make it go away.

The consequences of foreclosure

Unfortunately, the consequences of having a foreclosure on your record are becoming more dire all the time. It can affect your future ability to do everything from taking out a credit card, buying a car or another home, getting a new job or even keeping the one you have. Security clearances are often adversely affected by foreclosures, and the consequences of having a foreclosure associated with your name need to be very thoughtfully considered.

Right now, about one in seven homeowners is behind on mortgage payments, or in some other type of financial distress. Whether they are in foreclosure already, in the pre-foreclosure pipeline, or wondering how to deal with a mortgage balance that is greater than their home is worth, they are facing some tough choices.

Happily, one of those choices is to make positive steps toward fixing the foreclosure situation and saving their financial future. Chances are, they just need help and guidance through the process, but don’t know where to begin. That’s where I come in.
